Pancaripis Nature Tourism
One of the main attractions in Tuwel Village is Pancaripis Nature Tourism, a natural tourist spot situated on the northern slopes of Mount Slamet at an altitude of around 900 meters above sea level. This place offers cool air, beautiful scenery, and various family-friendly facilities, such as hot spring pools sourced from Mount Slamet, outbound activities, and attractive photo spots. The entrance fee is very affordable, at IDR 15,000 for adults and IDR 10,000 for children. For river tubing activities, tickets are IDR 85,000 per person, which includes entrance fees, local transportation, and safety equipment.

Tuwel Village has significant natural tourism potential, including forests, national parks, and camping grounds. In addition, the village is also known as an agricultural center, especially for garlic farming, which supports trade and agro-tourism. The village’s vision is to become a center for agriculture and tourism, focusing on enhancing institutional capacity, agricultural infrastructure, and the development of trade and agro-tourism.
History of Tuwel Village
Tuwel Village has a long history dating back to the 19th century during Dutch colonial times. The name "Tuwel" is believed to come from the Arabic word "Thowil," meaning vast, referring to a wide area suitable for settlement. A heroic story associated with the village is the struggle of Mbah Rindik, a descendant of Sunan Gunung Jati and a former Mataram soldier, who was tasked by Ki Gede Sebayu to find a water source to irrigate agricultural land. Mbah Rindik discovered a hot spring behind Curug Sigeong, which has now become one of Tuwel Village’s tourist attractions.
Location and Access
Tuwel Village can be reached from Tegal City, approximately 36.1 km away, which takes about 1 hour by car. The road access to the village is quite good, and for visitors from outside the city, various options for public and private transportation are available.
